About six years ago Sherman was involved in a fight in a nightclub that left him partially paralyzed. During that same year, while recuperating and confined to a wheelchair, his girlfriend, not paying attention at the time, wheeled him out into the street in front of a speeding police cruiser on an emergency call. The impact of that crash resulted in the loss of both of his legs, just below the knees.
