Dawda Oliver

During a recent walk along U Street Corridor in Northwest Washington, D.C. I came across Dawda Oliver, an artist originally from The Gambia in West Africa, who was showcasing several pieces for sale outside of the 13th Street Metro Station. Impressed with his work and gentle demeanor with passersby and potential customers interested in purchasing his art, I waited and asked if he would not mind if I took his portrait. He responded in a tone barely above a whisper, smiled and nodded affirmatively. Please see his work on Instagram @oliverdawda

Tony's Boxing Gym Revisited -- Portraits

I have posted previously about my love of shooting boxers and the discovery of Tony's Boxing Gym, located in the Trinidad neighborhood of Washington, D.C. On my first visit, I focused on the training, conditioning and sparring. On this recent visit, it was mainly portraits. Amongst these athletes, whose ages range from 8 to 28 years old, are elementary and high school students, a college senior, former football player and at least one aspiring professional.
